BLACK & GOLD. A Poignant Hōmage to Tipene Brothers

A new sound from a new generation is here. Kydis Watts is dropping his poignant new single, BLACK & GOLD, a powerful, heartfelt homage to his brothers at Tipene -St Stephen's School.

As part of the historic first cohort when the school reopened in 2025, Kydis captured a unique moment in time. Woven from shared late nights, unbreakable brotherhood, and the weight of tradition, the track reflects the deep pride and spirit of Tipene. The lyric "the name up on my chest is looking steadfast to the sky" hits particularly close to home, drawing directly from the school’s motto—a phrase Kydis carries permanently, inked across his chest.

Written, composed, and self-produced right in his bedroom, 'Black & Gold' stood out on the national stage, placing as a top finalist in the prestigious Play It Strange National Songwriting Competition. The achievement earned Kydis a professional studio session and master, elevating his bedroom demo into a polished, resonant anthem.

As he prepares to graduate from Tipene this year and step into the halls of SAE Auckland in Parnell to study audio production, 'Black & Gold' stands as both a farewell and a monument to where it all began.

A special song for a special time—stream 'Black & Gold' now and witness the start of Kydis Watts' next chapter.
